Milla Eastwood is an action painter, inspired by gestural painters,
including Julian Schnabel and Eddie Martinez and abstract expressionists
such as Albert Irvin, Howard Hodgkin and Gillian Ayres, Eastwood’s work
explores ideas of spontaneity and authenticity. Her use of intense colour
and gesture creates a sheer energy and tension in the work. Moving quickly
over the canvas, turning it upside down and using the materials
she has to hand. One mark leads to, informs and changes another.
Eastwood’s process is about responding and creating a visual
sensation that connects to the eye and the body, through movement.
As part of her practice, Eastwood often works outside and in
botanical gardens, although her works are not representations
of the landscape. Immersing herself in nature and tropical
nurseries gives Eastwood a sense of freedom and allows her
paintings to be bold and reactive. Eastwood creates sensual
imagery of exotic beauty to visually seduce the viewer.
Eastwood obtained a BA in Fine Art from Wimbledon College of Arts
and a Foundation CCW from Camberwell College of Arts in London.
Eastwood currently lives and works in London.
