Poolside
Jack Penny
Artsy | Foundations – Online Exclusive
The Dot Project is pleased to present “Poolside”, a new series of works by British artist Jack Penny.
Penny shares a uniquely compassionate, slightly irreverent and always vibrantly original view on the contemporary world – in all its strangeness, beauty and occasional darkness.
In “Poolside” the artist deep-dives into the genre of swimmers / bathers that is a rich seam, reinterpreting the subject through his artistic lens – everyday aspects of human interaction are explored with a captivating blend of fascination, amusement, and critique.
While the combination of unclothed bodies and water can evoke guilt-free primordial innocence, in his ‘Poolside” compositions Penny pays an affectionate homage to often underrated staff members who make a difference behind the scenes.
In this depiction of leisure, pleasure, employment and exploitation, a wealth of universal truths are unveiled. The interaction with water – often uneasy and full of surface tension, serves as a powerful yet playful metaphor for our collective experience.
Penny’s vision is unfailingly clear and concise with a youthful and egalitarian sense of love for the underdog that rings through the canvas with humour and power in equal measure.
Foundations, a new online fair curated by Artsy, spotlights fresh works from tastemaking galleries known for supporting emerging artists. This year’s fair includes presentations from more than 100 galleries across four continents, featuring rising talents from across the globe.
