“The world is my stage, with regards to both my every day as well as my work: large paintings, complex stage design, international collaborations or teaching at my school. I create aesthetic compositions in each and every aspect of my life.
Painting is the backbone of my work. I create large, abstract-expressionist images, diptychs or triptychs, which have reign over the space they populate. I work with acrylics, lacquer, charcoal and pencil, and gestural lines, drips and planes. The canvas is often un-stretched and stapled to the wall or floor, so that it can take the weight of my whole body. Subsequently, I work with my entire body in order to leave powerful gestures. My internal emotions are transferred onto the canvas, where they materialise into a form and extension of my self.
I am not an intellectual, but an emotional painter, who is inspired by the tidal waves of his own life experiences. Construction and destruction of colours, lines and planes are united as one entity to create something on the canvas that touches people – transference through matter.
Music and dance are the origin of my art. I use my body as an expression of my emotion though my powerful and broad movements, which are then transported onto the canvas through the energy I project.
Everyone, including myself, should be given the chance to reach their potential and experience the power of their creativity and own being. In order to offer space for such creative and spiritual exploration, I founded the Kulturegg in 2004 which encompasses the Children’s Art Academy, the Academy of Scenic Painting & Arts and Studio Schmidbauer”
