Artist-in-Residence Programme | Summer–Autumn 2025
This October, British artist Nick Jensen will undertake a month-long residency at Belvoir Castle, developing a new body of work in direct dialogue with the site’s layered cultural and physical landscape.
Living and working within the castle, Jensen will respond instinctively to its inherited histories and the often-overlooked details of its interiors and surrounding grounds – approaching Belvoir not as a static monument, but as a place shaped by memory, time, and use.
Jensen’s practice is rooted in perception – how we interpret, filter, and reframe the world around us. His paintings, often made through an intuitive mixture of distemper and oil paint, operate like depictions of sensations: fleeting glimpses of play, intimacy, or pause. His work carries both playfulness and unease, bodies caught on thresholds of space.
Installed throughout Belvoir’s interiors, the works produced during the residency will act as both interruptions and echoes. They will reframe the castle as something alive and responsive, creating a powerful conversation between contemporary abstraction and centuries of history, between the fleetingness of perception and the permanence of stone.
